Start and finish
The start is on Park Terrace, at the Armagh Street end. The event venue and finish are in the Special Events Area, Hagley Park North, at the Armagh Street entrance. The distance is certified to IAAF and AIMS standard.
The lap
Each lap heads south on Rolleston Avenue, follows Cambridge Terrace and the Avon, loops through the east of the city past Latimer Square, then runs west along Kilmore Street to Park Terrace. From there it goes up to Harper Avenue and anti-clockwise around the outside of Hagley Park, then back through the middle of the park past Victoria Lake.
On the final lap, about 100 m past Victoria Lake, marathoners are directed left through the trees onto the Village Green and into the finish chute.
